What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are one of the simplest and most effective ways to take years off your appearance. In the last few years, BOTOX® injections have been the most popular non surgical cosmetic procedures as it is very potent and almost pain free.

How does it work?

BOTOX® is a purified protein. It acts as a neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes specific muscles by blocking the release of acetylcholine by motor neurons (nerves). It works by relaxing the wrinkles caused by facial muscle contractions, called dynamic wrinkles, and can take up to 6 weeks for full effectiveness. Wrinkles and lines created by the contractions of the treated muscles gradually fade and sometimes even disappear completely.

Why is BOTOX® so popular?

It’s an easy, effective way to look naturally refreshed, and it has a well-established safety record. It’s a fast minimally invasive solution to wrinkles without going under the knife.

  • There is no downtime
  • Treatments are affordable
  • Treatments are quick
  • You can expect natural-looking results when BOTOX® is skillfully administered
  • Results are visible 7-10 days after injections
  • Results last 3 to 4 months, and even longer with repeated treatments
  • No permanent risks or complications as the effects of BOTOX® fade off after a few months

What to expect with BOTOX®?

BOTOX® allows you to age gracefully. It works on dynamic wrinkles to smooth them and will give you that well-rested look that you have been looking for.

Where does BOTOX® work?

It is an Essential Anti-Aging Treatment as it is an effective treatment for those who want to get rid of, or even prevent, a variety of facial lines and wrinkles, including:

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Vertical frown lines, also called glabellar lines, between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet around the corners of the eyes
  • Lip lines
  • Bunny lines, also called scrunch lines, at the top of the nose
  • Vertical neck bands, also called platysmal bands
  • Irregular, dimpled skin on the chin
  • BOTOX® injections can also be used to create a slight browlift.

BOTOX® is safe and effective for treating much more than wrinkles. We offer it as a simple, non-surgical solution for a variety of other conditions, including:

  • Gummy smile
  • Wide jawline
  • Muscle soreness from clenching/grinding

Patients have also noticed getting less migraine headaches if injections are done on the Horizontal forehead and glabellar lines.

Patients have also noticed less acne breakouts in the treated zones.

What to Expect During Your BOTOX® Treatment?

BOTOX® treatments typically take only 10 minutes, which is another reason for their popularity. Patients usually experience very little discomfort, but we can prep the areas with ice or anesthetic cream if you are concerned about pain. Using a very fine needle, the doctor makes quick injections into the targeted muscles. After your appointment, you may return to work and other regular activities immediately, although we suggest that you avoid pressing on treated areas which may be a little sensitive at the injection sites.

Results are not immediate with BOTOX® treatments; you will notice the BOTOX® beginning to take effect in about 7 to 10 days. You will look refreshed and relaxed, and improvements will continue as the skin turns over. We advise our patients to expect peak results after 4 to 6 weeks, and to keep this in mind when planning for special events. Results typically last 3 to 4 months. Many patients say they also notice relief of facial tension and headaches. We recommend regular touch-up treatments to maintain results.

It is now easy to look young and for longer as facial muscles, like many other muscles, weaken when they’re not used, which explains why regularly scheduled BOTOX® treatments have been shown to produce prolonged results.

Preventative BOTOX®

You might think that getting BOTOX while you are still young is unnecessary, but the lines that you see on your face while you are smiling or frowning will eventually crease in permanently. Getting BOTOX while you are still young and before the wrinkles set in is a good way to keep those wrinkles at bay. Prevention will cost you less in the end.

How does BOTOX® work on bruxism?

Clenching and grinding our teeth often cause oversized masseter (chewing) muscles. Although these muscles are important to help us chew and speak, they can become hyperplasic due to simple overuse. The active ingredient in BOTOX® reduces the activity in this muscle, eventually reducing its size. This results in a relief of tension in those muscle and a softer, slimmer jawline.

If you have been prescribed a nightguard because of teeth grinding, you should also consider BOTOX® treatment for the masseter muscles.

Results will take some time to develop as the masseter muscle weakens and becomes smaller. Most patients say they see results about 6 weeks after their procedure, and results can last up to 6 months. Some patients may choose to undergo 2 or 3 treatments in a year.
